For those who want to experience Nazaré when a significant big-wave window is developing. Join the watchlist and we will contact you when the forecast indicates the right conditions.
When the window is confirmed, the experience is shaped around the swell, wind, tide, visibility and safety. You will be guided to the most suitable viewing points to understand what is happening in real time, from surfer positioning and Jet Ski support to the decisions being made in the water.
If surfers are in the water, you may be able to watch the action from a safe distance, with explanation and context throughout the experience.
Important note
Big-wave days always depend on the forecast, safety and ocean conditions. We cannot guarantee that surfers will be in the water, a specific wave height or a fixed level of activity.
Wave height is only one part of the story. Wind direction, swell period, tide, visibility, crowds, safety and the overall state of the ocean all shape the experience. The activity may be adjusted or cancelled for safety reasons.

What is the difference between Ocean Insight and Big Wave Watch?
Ocean Insight can take place in more regular conditions. Big Wave Watch is designed around forecast windows when Nazaré is expected to show genuinely significant surf.
Are big waves in Nazaré guaranteed?
No. Wave size and surf activity depend on swell, wind, tide, visibility and other conditions. A specific wave size or level of activity cannot be guaranteed.
How does the Nazaré Big Wave Watch work?
You join the watchlist and we monitor upcoming conditions. When a promising window develops, we contact you so the experience can be planned around the forecast.
When is the best time to see big waves in Nazaré?
Big-wave opportunities are generally associated with the colder Atlantic months, but individual swells cannot be predicted far in advance. The forecast determines the real opportunity.
What will I learn during the Nazaré experience?
You can learn how the Nazaré environment works from the water, including wave behaviour, positioning, Jet Ski operations, surfer support and some of the decisions involved in big-wave surfing.
What makes Nazaré different from other big-wave locations?

What happens if conditions are not suitable?
Safety and conditions come first. Timing, format or the experience itself may need to change if the ocean does not provide appropriate conditions.
Can I experience Nazaré from the water outside big-wave days?
Yes. Nazaré Ocean Insight offers an on-water perspective even when it is not a major big-wave day.
Do I need surfing experience to join Nazaré Ocean Insight?
No surfing experience is required for the standard Ocean Insight experience. You are guided on the Jet Ski by an experienced pilot and surfer who manages the on-water experience.
